After waking up at the parking lot of the Safeway, we went to the toilet and did a little refreshing.
After breakfast, we went to the AT&T shop. In 2020, we already bought a prepaid sim card for our internet connection. After contacting the company, they said it would still be used in 2022, but we couldn’t activate the sim card and the company didn’t respond on phone and email.
At the AT&T they told us they couldn’t activate it, and we had to buy a new prepaid SIM. So we did and after a lot of patience and waiting we left the shop with a new SIM card, but they told us it would be activated during the day.
We really had to move on and went up to Highway 1 towards San Francisco.
17-mile drive
In Monterey, you can do the 17-mile drive. This is a scenic drive through “Pebble Beach” along the coastal cliffs and white beaches. Along the 17-mile drive you can find ‘Bird Rock’ a big rock in the Ocean with a stinky pile of bird poo and ‘Lone Pine’ a lonely Pine standing by itself separated from the rest.
Santa Cruz Beach
The biggest attraction is the Santa Cruz Boardwalk, this is a fair that remains there the whole year round. We only walked the boardwalk and didn’t do any attraction. When you would like to get in a ride or something else, you need to buy credits, and we didn’t have too much time left because of the AT&T shop.
Pigeon Point Lighthouse
When you drive Highway 1 further north, you will pass this lighthouse, what is the tallest one along the west coast of the United States. At this point, the sunny sky was taken by gray clouds.
When we arrived at the parking of the lighthouse, we had to pay to enter. But for the time we would be there, we didn’t want to pay and parked the car just before the entrance. Here we walked a little to the edge of the cliffs to look at the breathtaking views.
Painted Ladies
Just as planned, we have arrived is San Francisco. In 2017, we visited San Francisco as well and wanted to spend a little more time, so this time we are back to see some more of this place.
First we went to the Target because the new SIM still wasn’t working on our mobile phone’s and bought the cheapest mobile phone in the hope it would work.
After buying the phone, we went to see “The Painted Ladies”, The most famous houses that are painted in different colors. You can find the on Steiner street, right across Alamo square.
Finding a place to sleep
We went to a parking lot next to the Yacht Harbor, here we cooked our diner and were a little lucky because we had a bit of Wi-Fi here.
We were a little scared of staying here on the parking, because there were signs it wasn’t allowed to stay there overnight.
So we drove to the other site of the Golden Gate Bridge, where you can park and stay at the Dana Bowers Rest Area & view point.
There were a few more campers here and felt safe to stay
Ohh, by the way. Still no mobile internet connection.
