Day 12: A day at Lake Tahoe

After waking up at the parkinglot where we had a good sleep, we needed to get some groceries and went to the Safeway first.
We have the stuff to make coffee in our campervan, but sometimes it is easier to get some cofee somewhere and went to the Starbucks after shopping.
Today we will driveall the way round Lake Tahoe with a couple of stops ofcourse.

Tahoe city

Our first stop on our tour around the lake is Tahoe city and made a little walk. There was a farmers market, but there was nothing we would like to buy. We went up and down the mainstreet and Mathilde took some pictures of the buildings.

Emerald Bay State Park

We went to the parking of Emarald Bay State Park, but because there was no free spots at the parkinglot we had to wait when a spot became free. We got a parking ticket from someone that was leaving, but when we returned  that seemed to be a invalid ticket and had to pay what was no problem for us.
At Emerald Bay there is a beautiful buidling ‘Vikingsholm‘, a “castle” build in 1929. Unfortunately we couldn’t book a tour because the tickets were sold out.

Eagle Falls
From the ‘Vikingsholm’ it is just a 15 minute walk to the nice looking waterfall named Eagle Falls.

Secret Cove
The last stop on our ineterary is secret cove. To get here we have parked the campervan at the Chimney Beach Trailhead. From here you have to walk the trail to the south. There will be no signs pointing you the richt way so plan your trip in advance!
Be aware that this place is a beach where it is allowed to be naked. But when you want to wear your swimsuit, this will be no problem.

After swimming at secret cove, we drove back to Kings Beach where we started this morning to have dinner at Char-Pit. This was the Burger restaurant people told us to go for dinner.
It was a nice burger, but the one yesterday was definitely better!
We left the Char-Pit 8:15 pm and need to drive a 150 mile to Gerlach where we arrived at 11 pm where we parked the campervan in front of Bruno’s Country Club, what was a bit scary first.
A couple of cars went by looking at us and went away again. Nobody asked us what we were doing, but when all was quiet there was one more thing to do. We need to subsribe us for the daily lottery to hike to the top of Half Dome when we are in Yosemite NP. We already tried to get the permits trough the normal lottery several times without luck. This will be our last change.

Now it’s time to get some sleep.
