This morning we woke up quite early because a lot of people were walking around our campervan.
The good news is we already got an email that we have won the lottery and have a permit to go to the top of Half Dome! WOW we feel really good about this, because we want to do this since 2017.
When we got out of bed there were a ot of cars and busses where people took left to some kind of work.
After we took our breakfast the we walked into Bruno’s Country Club where all the people seemed to gathered. We ordered a coffee and asked what the reason is of all the people gathering here.
We already knew the Gerlach is the nearest town from the Black Rock Desert where Burningman festival takes place in about 20 days. So they told us all the volunteers of the festival is gathering at this place where they can get work instruction, food, drinks and transport to the desert.
FlyGeyser Nature Walk
We are not here for the festival and not for the desert. We have been driving the desert in 2017 for a couple of hours and didn’t find the hotsprings where we were searching for, after we found out the Flygeyser isn’t accessible to public because it seems on private land of Fly ranch what is owned by Burningman.
Since 2020 you can book the Flygeyser Nature Walk organised by ‘Friends of Black Rock High Rock‘, so we bought the tickets twice…..because of corona.
The tour starts at the Fly Ranch and after a warm welcome the guide will take you to see some interesting places on the property where the showcase large-scale outdoor art scultures from previous fastivals.
Here is a great video from Fly Ranch here.
The last part of the tour took us to the Flygeyser itself. This is a great looking geyser because of al the colors. It is not a natural geyser, it is created by nature after some drilling in search of geothermal energy. It is an important watersource for the festival. They use the water to spread it over the desert against the dust when it is windy.
After talking to the tour guide we told our next stop would beYosemite, she gave us the tip to stop at Buckeye hotspring.
Buckeye Hotsprings
After a 200 mile drive we arrive at the Buckeye hotspring. The spring itself is just a little stream of hot water coming out of a hole in the mountain. A little under the spring is a Buckeye Creek where a pool is created where the hot water falls into.
There was a guy, pretty stoned, asked us to send a plane with weed from Amsterdam!
We stayed for just one hour because it’s already 6:45 pm and we still have to drive to Yosemite. We have a campground reservation for the night on Upper Pines.
Yosemite NP
Our route to Yosemite took us over the Tioga Pass (State route 120) what is a really enjoying road with great views.
We made a little stop at Tuolumne Meadows to enjoys the Sunset for the moment and after some pictures we made our way to the Upper pines campground where the rangers already left because it was already 9:45 pm, and could go to our campground straight away.
We made a fire in the firepit and put some meet on the BBQ for diner.
It is already late in the evening and have to be fit for tomorrow morning, so after diner directly to bed!
